Last Chance For Summer

Ah, that slight crispness in the air, the start of the Minnesota State Fair, and pop-up ads for pumpkin spice lattes; the first signs of a Minnesota summer winding down.

We all know that means winter is right around the corner, with a short stint of perfect fall weather in between. And like most of us, even though you look fantastic in that cozy sweater and your favorite boots, you might not be ready to say goodbye to summer just yet.

Not to worry, you still have plenty of time left to soak in those last few hot sunny days of summer. We can help you squeeze in one more summer escape — from bonfires and hikes to great food and adventures on the water!

Stroll through Northland Arboretum

Close to Ruttger’s Bay Lake Resort is the incredible Northland Arboretum, encompassing over 500 acres of magnificent gardens, walking paths, grasslands, prairies, wetlands, and wildlife.

While exploring all 500 acres would be an ambitious feat (to put it mildly), a few not-to-miss highlights include the Garden Gazebo, waterfall, and aquatic garden, and the replica of Monet’s garden pond, filled with songbirds, butterflies, and wild and cultivated flowers.

Hit the Trails

If you’re looking for a little adventure while staying at Ruttger’s, rent an e-bike from All Trails E-Bikes and explore the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Trails. With over 120 continuously paved miles + 55 miles of singletrack mountain bike paths, there’s a trail for all levels of riders, from beginner to expert.

But no matter which trail you choose, you’ll be surrounded by unmatched scenery — gorgeous fall foliage, lakes, and wildlife. Plus, you can take a break from your ride to stop for farm-to-table dining, craft beer, or enjoy your own picnic by the countless lakes.

Head Out on the Water

Situated on beautiful Bay Lake, Ruttger’s offers endless opportunities for you to get out on the water. And soon enough, Bay Lake will be covered with a lovely layer of ice and snow. But fortunately, there’s still time for one last pontoon ride, fishing trip, or beach outing.

As a guest at Ruttger’s, you can rent a kayak, canoe, and paddleboat for free. For a small fee, you can also rent a paddle board, hydrobike, or sailboat. This year, guests have enjoyed a refurbished beach and a new armada of marina toys, including a tritoon, a red shark for tubing, and water trampoline. Of course, you can also soak in the scenery from the beach or in our outdoor pool.

Sunset on the Patio

Those warm summer evenings are the best. Savor the remaining summer nights with good conversation and a great meal on the deck of the Bear Pine Bar. Great casual fare, choose from burgers, sandwiches, pizza, and appetizers. With great views over Bay Lake, you’ll want to stretch the night even further with one more nightcap from our handcrafted cocktail menu.

And for dessert?! On the weekends you can head over to the fire pit for a bonfire and s’mores – a quintessential staple of summer.

Round of Golf on Jack’s 18

Get in one last round of golf before you have to pack up your clubs for the winter. Jack’s 18 is great for all skill levels, whether you’re a seasoned golfer wanting to hone your skills or a novice looking to get in the game.

On this par 72, you’ll wind through tall Norway pines and natural lakes Goose and Bass as you navigate each hole. And after your game, you can stop in the White Oak Grill for a bite or a beer.

Summer isn’t over yet. Enjoy one last getaway at Ruttger’s!
