Sue’s Insights – Best Job at the Resort

What Is the Best Job at the Resort?

Whenever I meet new people, they always have the same question for me, “how much fun is it to the work in the hospitality industry?”.  This got me thinking about what has been my favorite job. Immediately, I thought of the front desk, truly the heart of the resort.  The energy at the front desk is addicting.  Then I thought about housekeeping, even though it is a lot of hard work, the satisfaction of returning a room to its original gleam and shine is gratifying. The food and beverage aspect is fun because culinary trends are always changing.  Creating new drink blends can be a real science and taste testing is the best!  Although, I have not experienced it personally,  I feel like the marina or golf course would be great because you can be outside all day. I truly do love hospitality group sales because I love meeting new people and working with them to find the right fit for their group event.  So I bet you’re wondering what my favorite job at the resort is….they all are! All of the areas must come together to create a beautiful melody, to have one without the other would sound like an unfinished piece of music.  When everyone is working together in harmony magic happens!

That’s why I love being a part of the team at Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge.

Sue’s Insights: Event Fun Fast Facts

Posted on: March 20th, 2014 by admin

Wine is the most popular alcoholic beverage that is served with a group banquet dinner.  It is wise to plan on ½ bottle of wine per person.

When hosting an outdoor event in the summer time, it is best to plan on serving more white wine than red.  Most people will drink white wine as a thirst quencher.  A good rule of thumb would be to request 2 red bottles and 8 white bottles of wine for every 10 ordered.

If you would like to have a wine low in alcohol request a German Riesling.  Al Satian Rieslings are a little bit higher and California Rieslings have the highest alcohol content.

When adding a dance floor to your event, plan on 10’ square feet per couple.

These fun fast facts are brought to you by Sue Maroney-Smith, Director of Sales.

Sue’s Insights: Meeting Inspiration – Move

Posted on: February 26th, 2014 by admin

RUT027 (1)

Looking for new inspiration for your meeting or event? Have you noticed attendees zoning out, starting to slump in their chairs or getting antsy? Here is an idea for you….move! A brief exercise break works great to get attendees energized and engaged again.

The exercise does not need to be an hour long class. It can be as simple as chair yoga stretches or something fun, like a short outdoor scavenger hunt. These mini exercises can be led by a professional or a volunteer from the group.

Finding an easy, quick activity will boost morale, productivity, attendees will be happier, motivated and more involved. So many benefits! Remember to keep in mind any physical limitations of the group. The Ruttger’s staff is here to help in your planning down to the smallest details.

Benjamin Franklin once said, “ You don’t stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing.”
