But just in case you want to do a little exploring, the Cuyuna and Brainerd Lakes Areas do offer many things to do for the whole family. With a range of offerings such as minepit lakes, parks, scuba diving, and walking and biking trails, everyone will find something to enjoy.
The Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Trails are only eight miles from Ruttger’s. The 22-mile trail winds through a rugged area created by 70 years of former iron ore mining. It consists of deep water-filled old mining pits and tall piles of excavated rock and mining debris. Nature has beautifully reclaimed the area, truly making this area a one of a kind mountain biking trail. Mountain bike rentals are available in nearby Crosby.
The Cuyuna Lakes State Recreational Area near Crosby-Ironton, Minnesota, incorporates both paved and off-road walking and riding paths to take visitors through the regenerated iron ore mining land. The many lakes were formed from the open pit mining done on the Cuyuna Range. The newly opened mountain biking trails are easily reached by vehicle or bike and are located only 8 miles from Ruttger’s.
Mille Lacs Kathio State Park, Only 23 miles from Ruttger’s, offers visitors a beautiful trail system packed with historic monuments and abundant wild life. 320-532-3523

Paul Bunyan Land and This Old Farm offer 35 rides and attractions including the world’s largest talking and animated man. Located on Highway 18, only 12 miles from Ruttger’s, this is one of the Brainerd MN attractions you don’t want to miss!

Cycle, Path and Paddle is located in nearby Crosby, home of the Cuyuna State Recreation Area and the Cuyuna Mountain Bike Trail. They offer specialized cycles, canoes or kayaks for rent and purchase for individuals, couples, or for the entire family to share.
