Once a month, Jonathan will be visiting the Ruttger’s Blog and educating us on different weather wonders. This month, after Chris Ruttger shot this amazing picture of the Sun Dogs, we thought it was the perfect question for Jonathan…how do Sun Dogs occur?
Take it away, Jonathan!
First of all when you see Sun Dogs, you know it is cold (the air temperature has to be less than 10 degrees).
Here is how and why Sun Dogs occur:
Many of you are familiar with the fact that Ruttger’s has a strong German heritage. You see it in several different ways around the resort, including the Rüttger wine from German. There is one sign of the Ruttger’s German heritage that stands out more than the others, Oktoberfest. This year, October 19 -21 marks the 27th Annual Oktoberfest, and like past events, it is a festival that celebrates the German history at Ruttger’s.
Oktoberfest began in 1810 in Germany when Crown Prince Ludwig, later King Ludwig I, married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hidburghausen. The citizens of Munich celebrated the union on the fields in front of the city gates. At the end of the celebration, horse races were held in front of the Royal Family. The horse races were repeated every year (although they are no longer a part of the celebration) and Oktoberfest was born.

After attending an event, there is always one thing in particular that stands out and sets it apart from others. At Ruttger’s, we strive to create an excellent experience for your group’s event, whether it be a company retreat, meeting, or a family reunion. Your guests are sure to remember Ruttger’s.
One of the things that may stand out about the event in your guest’s mind is the location. When you escape to Northern Minnesota, your guests will be refreshed with the change of scenery. They will enjoy the beautiful views of Bay Lake and the surrounding nature. Our Sales Team will work with you to find the perfect space for your group. With a variety of conference and meeting spaces, you are sure to find exactly what you are looking for.
There is no better way to enjoy the fall oranges, yellows, and reds than to play a round of golf. It is a great time of year to enjoy the course with a group of friends or family. The air has cooled, the crowds have thinned, and the trees are full of beautiful fall colors. It seems even better knowing that it may be the last few times you have the chance to get out on a course before the inevitable snow begins falling on the ground.

Throughout the years, we have had the privilege of providing exceptional vacations to our guests, both new one as well as guests that have been coming for years. Therefore, we are proud to be named one of the top favorite Minnesota resorts by the Star Tribune, as well as being featured in the Brainerd Daily Dispatch’s publication, Generations in Business. Both are a true honor and we are grateful for the recognition. (more…)
